Why I Took a Hiatus From Social Media

social media hiatus

Firstly, I want to clarify that social media has never been a toxic thing for me. It's always been a creative outlet, and I've enjoyed using it as a platform to connect with others who share similar interests. As someone who used to dabble in web design and blogging as a hobby, having a digital presence has always felt natural to me.

However, earlier this year, things got really chaotic for me really quickly. I moved, got engaged, planned a wedding, and got remarried to the love of my life. Alongside these wonderful but big events, I was in the midst of an emotionally taxing custody battle. The situation was taking a toll on my mental and emotional well-being. To add to the chaos, my trauma therapist of three years passed away unexpectedly, leaving me feeling lost.

As if that wasn't enough, my sleep was getting much worse, which made it harder for me to function normally in my day-to-day life. I hit a point where I realized I had all these pending things I wanted to do with my blog and social media channels creatively, but I simply didn't have the capacity. I needed to start removing things from my plate and take a break.

Taking a break from social media and my blog was a difficult decision for me. It felt like I was abandoning something that had always been a source of joy and fulfillment in my life. But, in hindsight, I know that taking a step back was the best decision I could have made for my well-being.

During my hiatus, I had time to focus on myself and work through the difficult emotions I was experiencing. I took time to grieve the loss of my therapist and process the custody battle. I also tried to focus on making lifestyle changes to improve my overall wellbeing.

Now that I'm back, I feel excited to dive back into my creative projects. But, I also recognize the importance of balancing my online presence with my mental and emotional well-being. Going forward, I plan to be more intentional with my social media use and prioritize self-care.

All in all, taking a hiatus from social media and my blog was a necessary decision for my well-being. While it was difficult to step away from something that had always brought me joy, I learned the importance of prioritizing my mental and emotional health. To those who may be feeling overwhelmed or burned out, know that it's okay to take a step back and prioritize your well-being. You'll come back feeling stronger and more motivated than ever.
