Okay... so I know these pictures have nothing to do with this post, but I really wanted to write this story down because my neighbor suggested it and I thought it was brilliant but I have no pictures to go with it. And I wanted to post these pictures, but I don't want to do a whole post just on my outfit. So, two birds with one stone. Here we go.
A couple of weeks ago I was going to my parents house when I saw IKEA off the freeway, just like I always do. Only this time... I had no kiddos with me. I had always wanted to check it out and so I decided to stop off and see what this place was all about. I get off the freeway and was able to find my way to the store with ease. When I got to the parking lot it was much bigger than I had anticipated. It was also a lot more full than I had anticipated. I parked to what I thought was close to the front and walked in the door nearest me. When I walked in it was WAY different than I had expected. It was HUGE! It felt like a Costco for furniture, only with much shorter ceilings. In fact, I couldn't get over how low they felt for such a big store.
I was pretty confused when I walked in because all I saw were the checkout lines and no obvious way to get in. I then walked to the other side figuring that I somehow walked in on the wrong side. When I walked to the other side all I saw was a booth of some kind and stairs. Now I was really confused. So I looked at the sign to see what would even be up the stairs and all I saw was it said 'restaurant'. So I walked back to the other side and I could tell the people in the lines were looking at me like, 'what is she doing?'. I think I just stood there for a few seconds deciding if I was just going to abort mission and go straight on to my parents or try and get in nonchalant by squeezing through the checkout lines. After moments of just standing there like a lost baby deer I decided on the latter.
I was in. The first part I saw was just a warehouse of boxes which wasn't that exciting but then I made my way into the other part of the store. I was so excited by all the fun stuff I saw but just kept thinking it felt really claustrophobic and like they needed to do better displaying or something. I also got lost a few times as it felt like getting trapped in the different departments as I made my way seemingly backwards through the store.
I was able to find a few different things and made my way out a lot easier than I did coming in. When I got home I told my husband about my experience and he just started laughing. It was only then that I was informed I did NOT experience the store! There was an entire upstairs showroom!!! Who knew?! Not me, clearly. That explained the lack of displays, the low ceilings, and the feeling like I couldn't find half of what I thought I might find. I missed more than half of the store!
So yes, it was me. I was the idiot at IKEA a couple of weeks ago if you were wondering. But no worries, I had a do over yesterday when Steve and I decided to go on a little day date to visit the store so he could show me the ropes properly.
